Guatemala - Life on Lake Atitlan

Local Guatemalans depend upon Lake Atitlan for their livelihood. From local street merchants selling to the tourists to the local fishermen. I'm told the lake had been stocked with Bass years ago and even had a successful international bass derby a few years ago. I worry about the lake. Every morning and evening I was by the lake shore or on the docks and I never saw a fish caught nor did I ever see any small feeder fish/minnows in the water from the docks. Is it all fished out or too polluted?
