  3. Guatemala Mission Trip November 2007

2007-11-16 Friday - From Panajachel to Lunch in Antigua Guatemala

I found this to be an incredible trip with wonderful experiences and I recommend others to volunteer for the twice yearly trips in the future. Installing the Clean Water System was an important task along with the other projects the teams completed. For me, the life changing experience was getting to know the Guatemalan people, seeing their lifestyle, understanding their struggles and falling in love with the kids. These are beautiful people in a beautiful country. If you need to use any of these photos, send me an email and I’ll send it to you or you can purchase it from the website for a nominal cost and help fund my next trip. God Bless.

Typical mode of transportation is ride sharing or car pooling. It is common to see the back of pickup trucks loaded with people and people waiting along the side of the road for their ride.

Very few local Guatemalans can afford gas or electricity to cook with. Cooking and heating is done on wood fires. Everywhere you go you see men, women and children cutting and hauling wood. Here is a store that sells wood.

Snapshots of the life of farming. There is essentially no flat land and nearly all farming is done entirely by hand. No tractors or automation. Even see women throwing water from a creek by hand to water the crops.
