Grinding the "Burn" Pile - 3-9-2012

In the old days, we would take all the orchard trimmings, un-sold trees and other orchard waste and pile in in one place. During the winter, usually on a mid January rainy day we would burn the pile so that the rain would capture most of the smoke and drop it to the ground. Of course a time came when burning was not allowed. Because of the dust created and diesel used in the grinding operations, I believe the trend is back to allowing burning as the more environmentally friendly method of disposing orchard trash.
