Multnomah Falls early morning.  Columbia River Gorge, Oregon.

These falls are as beautiful as ever but what kept drawing me back to this particular photo was the light stand in this early morning hour.  My imagination kept jumping to the light stand in Narnia - maybe after Aslan defeated the White Witch.  Now I need to take the same photo some snowy morning to capture the scene when the White Witch was still in control (you'll have to read C.S. Lewis' "Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe" to understand).  Too bad it is 950 miles away from me...

Salix purpurea 'Pendula' - Purple Osier Weeping Willow
Ideal willow for patio and small gardens.  Branches are dark maroon, slender and flexible which gives weeping form.  Leaves are blue-green.  Small catkins open to white cottony puffs.  Although heights can reach 8-10 feet with 8-10 foot spread, pruning for patio and landscape use will keep it to your preferred size.  Cold hardy to USDA Zone 3.  These are grafted on 5 foot standards to make an ornamental, weeping patio tree.

Bubba Desert Willow - Chilopsis linearis 'Bubba'
The blossoms are a beautiful bright bicolor of lavender and dark purple.  Bubba is a vigorous grower.  Its flowers and leaves are larger than that of the species.  Bubba flowers throughout the summer.  Discovered by Paul Cox at the San Antonio Botanical Garden.  Can reach up to 20 feet in some areas.  Cold hardy to USDA Zone 7.

Fuyu (Imoto) Persimmon - Diospyros kaki
Popular fresh eating Japanese persimmon.  Large, round, flattened.  More "square" and flatter than Fuyu (Jiro).  Reddish-brown skin.  Smooth texture.  Good eating firm ripe.  Non-astringent.  Ripens in November.
