Rounded habit with arching branches, more refined than common lilac. Highly fragrant, open panicles of purple-lilac flowers bloom up to 4 weeks; attracts butterflies. Best in full sun; well-drained soil; tolerates dry, alkaline soils. Mature height and width to 10-12 feet. Use in the Landscape: specimen, in masses, privacy screens or hedges, as shrub border. Cold hardy to U.S.D.A. Zone 3.
