Guatemala - Those Precious Children : Before I came on this trip, I expected to enjoy the beauty of Guatemala. I was not prepared to have my heart totally captured by the Children. Enter this gallery and see just a glimpse of Sunday afternoon's special time with the kids. Providing clean water was no longer an abstract project. It became personal.

Lake Atitlan - The Race : The quiet of Sunday morning's sunrise was broken by amplified music coming from canopies erected by the shore. Coming closer I was surprised to hear that the music was in English and that a crowd of swimmers were getting ready for a distance race in the lake. A wide range of ages among the competitors. Water was cold and the swimmers were being coated in grease to help keep them warm. I was a former swimmer and these athletes impressed me with their speed.

Later in the week we tested the lake water for contamination. It was grossly bad and not something I would want to swim on.

Guatemala - Life on Lake Atitlan : Local Guatemalans depend upon Lake Atitlan for their livelihood. From local street merchants selling to the tourists to the local fishermen. I'm told the lake had been stocked with Bass years ago and even had a successful international bass derby a few years ago. I worry about the lake. Every morning and evening I was by the lake shore or on the docks and I never saw a fish caught nor did I ever see any small feeder fish/minnows in the water from the docks. Is it all fished out or too polluted?

Guatemala - Antigua Guatemala : On the way to the airport we drove through Antigua-Guatemala. Stopped for a nice lunch and had a little over an hour to briskly walk (run) around the town and take hand held (no tripod) photos. I want to return some day and have two to three days to explore this fascinating and colorful city.
